For reigning World Champion Sebastian Vettel, it was business as usual for the first Formula 1 race of 2011 in Melbourne, the German securing a dominant pole position in qualifying and following it up with a decisive win the following day in the Red Bull RB7. Lewis Hamilton's McLaren was in the hunt throughout the race, the Briton taking an eventual second place after duelling closely with his rival in the early stages. |
The Duel - Nigel Mansell and Ayrton Senna at Monaco, 1992 by Ivan Berryman. While dominating the race, a loose wheel nut forced Nigel Mansell into the pits with only 7 laps remaining. He emerged about 5 seconds behind Senna, and one of the best duels in F1 history ensued, as Mansell quickly closed the gap.. With four laps to go of the tight street circuit at Monaco, Mansell could not get around the McLaren of Senna, and finished just two tenths of a second behind him at the end of the race. |

Johnny Herbert/ Benetton B.195 by Ivan Berryman Johnny Herbert is shown in the Benetton B195. Herbert took a deserved victory at his home British Grand Prix at Silverstone, beating the Ferrari of Frenchman Jean Alesi into second place by more than 16 seconds, and ahead of fellow briton David Coulthard in the third placed Williams. He also claimed victory at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. Along with Michael Schumachers nine victories, Herbert helped Benetton win their first constructors championship in the 1995 season. The Formula One Benetton B195 was designed by Rory Byrne and Ross Brawn for use in the 1995 Formula One season by Benetton. The B195 was almost identical to the B194 but for a change of engine supplier from Ford to Renault V10 engine, the same type the rival Williams team was using. With his first two Formula One wins under his belt in 1995, Johnny Herbert won just one more race, winning at the Nurburgring at the European Grand Prix in 1999, racing for Stewart Ford. He retired from Formula One in 2000. |

Jean Alesi - Sauber by Ivan Berryman. Jean Alesi drove the number 11 Sauber in the 1999 Formula One season. With just seven finishes that year, his only points-scoring races were at San Marino and Japan, where he finished in 6th place. |

After two non-finishes at the start of the 1994 season, he was involved in a fatal accident in the third race of the season at Imola, San Marino. |

Prost went on to win this race after Damon Hill suffered engine failure, while Alesi finished in 9th place, a lap behind Prost. |
Ronnie Peterson - The Final Victory by Ivan Berryman. The Austrian Grand Prix at the Österreichring in 1978 was conducted under heavy skies that threatened rain at some point during the race. Having qualified on pole, the Swede Ronnie Peterson made a textbook start in his Lotus Cosworth 79, but his team mate, Mario Andretti, did not get away so well and it was Carlos Reutemann's Ferrari that assumed second place on the run up the steep hill from the start. The cold conditions meant that grip was poor and several cars found themselves in the barrier before the race was finally stopped, due to a torrential downpour. At the restart, Peterson again assumed a dominant lead, claiming his last victory ahead of Patrick Depailler's Tyrrell Cosworth and Gilles Villeneuve's Ferrari. Just one month later at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, the great Ronnie Peterson was involved in an horrific crash at the race start that left him with terrible injuries from which he later died. |
