Louis Levy found themselves defending the strategic crossing over the flooded Merderet river, against the determined attacks of the German 91st Division. Despite being supported by captured Renault tanks the Panzer Grenadiers assaults were repelled, until at last out of ammunition the paratoopers were forced to retreat.
