The signature of Bob Tullius

Bob Tullius
*Signature Value : £35

Tullius raced in SCCA in the mid 1970s, winning the 1975 championship in the Group 44, Inc. Jaguar V-12 E-Type. Bob Tullius was a racer. When he took on racing, he drove many types of cars, from Dodge Darts to Ford Mustangs, then Jaguar Es, XJS, Triumph TR8s and later, Jaguar XJR5s and 7s. He had a British Leyland dealership and when he took part of the GTP series, his goal was to improve the Jaguar image. For 1977, the Group44 racing team had a very successful season in Trans AM with a race car based on the actual production XJ-S chassis and running gear. The team won the series 1977 drivers championship cup for Bob Tullius but missed winning the manufacturers title by two points - only one Jaguar was competing in the Trans-Am series compared to many more Porsche entrants thus giving them the advantage. In 1978, a purpose-built tube-frame silhouette style XJS race car was constructed and Group 44 succeeded in again capturing the drivers championship for Bob Tullius and also captured the manufacturers title as well, by entering Brian Fuerstenau driving the 1977 car at some venues to gain additional manufacturers point for Jaguar. The history of the American Jaguar racing effort in GTP and at Le Mans is inextricably linked to Bob Tullius. A long time enthusiast for British sports racing cars, Bob Tullius formed the Group 44 racing team in the early 60s with partner Brian Feurstenau and, although he was involved with the Howmet Turbine car in 1968, he loyally campaigned Jaguar E-types, MGs and Triumph TR8s in the United States for the next two decades. Bob Tullius was the Team Chief and Driver for Jaguar at Le Mans 1984.

His first race was the 1968 South African Grand Prix and he went on to win the 1970 Targa Florio with a Porsche 908 and in 1975 with a BMW Coupe won the 12 Hours of Sebring and for a second time in 1978 in a Porsche 935. Redman was for many years associated with the Chevron marque, founded by fellow Lancastrian Derek Bennett. In four decades of sports car and open-wheel competition, Brian Redman amassed a prolific racing resume. He has been part of four International Championship of Makes titles (1968 to 1970 and 1972), won the 1970 European 2.0-Liter Championship, three-straight F5000 Championships (1974 to 1976) and the 1981 IMSA GTP Championship. Redman also achieved great success in the worlds most difficult endurance races, winning the Targa Florio in 1970, the 24 Hours of Daytona three times (1970, 1976 and 1981), the Nurburgring 1000km twice (1969 and 1973), the Spa 10000km four times (1968, 1969, 1970 and 1972) and the 12 Hours of Sebring twice (1975 and 1978). Redman collected IMSA GTP race wins for Group 44 Jaguar at the Grand Prix of Miami in 1984 and at Road Atlanta in 1985.
