| The Race That Never Was by Susan Crawford. Susan Crawfords latest limited edition depicts the famous race that never was between two of the greatest flat horses of our time. In August 2000, Sheikh Mohammed, the owner of Dubai Millennium, challenged Michael Tabor, the owner of Montjeu. to an old-fashioned head-to-head match over ten furlongs between the two superstar colts, with a purse of $6 million to the winner. However, just twenty-four hours later, Dubai Millennium broke his right hind leg in training at Newmarket and effectively ended his career. The eagerly anticipated match had to be abandoned. Owned and bred by Sheikh Mohammeds Godolphin Racing, Dubai Millennium won nine out of ten career starts, including triumphant victories in the Prince of Waless Stakes at Ascot in June 2000 and the $6 million Dubai World Cup in March 2000, failing to win only the Epsom Derby. Montjeu, bred by Sir James Goldsmith and trained by John Hanmond, has already been victrious in a number of big races, including the Prix de lArc de Triomphe at Longchamps in October 1999 and the King,George VI & Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot in July 2000. In her depiction of the Race That Never Was. Susan Crawford has painted Dubai Millennium, ridden by Frankie Dettori, and Montjeu, ridden by Mick Kinane, neck and neck a furlong from home. Who won?
