Henry Liddon (deceased) *Signature Value : £45 | Born 20th April 1932, Henry Liddon became known as one of the greatest co-drivers in the world of rallying, partnering Timo Makinen to three consecutive RAC Rally victories in 1973, 1974 and 1975. He was also the co-driver to Paddy Hopkirk, the first pairing to bring the Mini Cooper to the fore in rallying, winning the Monte Carlo Rally in 1964. He won the event again in 1967, co-driving for Rauno Aaltonen. He went on to become manager of TTE, a successful rally team in the 1980s. Sadly, Henry Liddon died on 23rd September 1987 after the aircraft he was travelling in crashed during the Ivory Coast Rally of 1987. |
Timo Makinen (deceased) *Signature Value : £35 | One of the original 'Flying Finns' in the world of rallying, Timo Mainen was born on 18th March 1938. Driving Mini Coopers in the 1960s, he won a total of 6 events. His most notable achievement was a hat trick of victories in the RAC Rally, winning the event in 1973, 1974 and 1975, driving a dominant Ford Escort RS. A true rally legend, Timo was once hindered by the bonnet of his Mini Cooper which, after the securing straps were dislodged by some rough rallying, flew up and covered his windscreen. He continually slid the car sideways throughout the rest of the stage in order to see out of the side window - and most remarkably, still posted a time which placed him third for the stage! He died on 4th May 2017. |
