On three occasions since their last Grand Slam in 1995 the England team had come within a whisker of completing another dream. During this important build up towards the world cup England finally laid their ghost to rest. After six years under the guidance of Head Coach Clive Woodward England, having beaten the big three from the Southern Hemisphere in a back-to-back series of matches at Twickenham, reached number one in the Zurich world ranking.
