| Cheltenham by Graham Isom. Graham Isom has chosen to portray perhaps the greatest National Hunt course in the world in this, his latest limited edition. The magnificent Cheltenham Racecourse, known across the world as the home of National Hunt racing, offers 16 race meetings in a season lasting from October to April. Highlight of the racing calendar is the National Hunt Festival in March, which features the famous Cheltenham Gold Cup and Champion Hurdle. The racecourse itself is set in a natural bowl, to which the Cotswolds provide a spectacular backdrop. The brown and purple hills which stand in and around the course are justly famous and, whether in low mist or in the beautiful spring sunshine, the weather and landscape can combine to produce the most remarkable effects of light and colour on race-days. Always driven by his love of horses, Graham Isoms painting of Cheltenham specifically depicts two of the great horses in the 2000 Gold Cup: Florida Pearl, ridden by Paul Carberry, and the eventual victor, Looks Like Trouble, ridden by Richard Johnson and wearing number 7. | Cool Dawn by Graham Isom. Graham Isoms latest limited edition print, Cool Dawn, is characteristic of the artists genius in rendering the sense of horses in motion. The image depicts the fairy-tale victory of Cool Dawn in the 1998 Cheltenham Gold Cup, which was run on Thursday March 20th 1998. In the race, the unfancied outsider beat Strong Promise well into second place and the favourite. Dorans Pride, into third. Trained in Dorset by Robert Alner and carrying the colours of owner, Dido Harding, Cool Dawns romantic story stunned the world of racing. Bought cheaply as a nice safe ladys ride - to be ridden by the owner in point-to-points, Cool Dawns victory in the Cheltenham Gold Cup brought him the most prized trophy from the major meeting in National Hunt racing. In training, Cool Dawn had shown early promise and eventually ran third in the Irish National. However, the ten year old was so little fancied for the Gold Cup that lie set off at odds of 25-1. His jockey. Andrew Thormon, made all the running throughout the race and Cool Dawns terrific staying power kept him ahead of the pack, and thus out of trouble, until challenged only after the last fence by Strong Promise. In an epic battle up the hill to the finishing fine, Cool Dawn gradually inched ahead to complete a fairy-tale three-day racing festival at Cheltenham in which equally romantic victories had been won by the popular grey. One Man, and by the Irish favourite, Istabraq. Limited edition of 400 prints. Image size 17 inches x 21 inches (43cm x 53cm). Price £94.00 ITEM CODE LIM0457 |
| Istabraq by Graham Isom. Graham Isoms beautiful limited edition features Istabraq, one of the greatest horses of the century, on the way to winning the 1999 Smurfit Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham for the second year in succession. As in 1998, Istabraq was ridden by Charlie Swan and was eventually victorious in the biggest race in the National Hunt calendar by just over 3 lengths from a field of fourteen horses which included some of the most formidable names of the 1990s. From left to right, the horses prominently featured are: City Hall, ridden by Robert Thormon; Tiutchev, ridden by Mick Fitzgerald; Mister Morose, ridden by Carl Llewellyn; Bellator, ridden by Norman Williamson; Istabraq, ridden by Charlie Swan and French Holly, ridden by Andrew Thornton. Trained by Aidan OBrien and owned by the great Irish gambler JP McManus, Istabraq revelled in the bright and sunny conditions and on the good to soft ground. His success is a tribute to the work of the young colleague of JP McManus. John Durkan. who selected the horse on the grounds of his great promise but who died tragically frorn leukaemia before Istabraqs greatest triumphs. In his memory, the John Durkan Memorial Fund was founded by a number of his friends in the racing world to raise money to establish a leukaemia research body in Dublin called The Institute of Molecular Medicine. Istabraq, in Arabic, means to run like lightning. Signed limited edition of 500 prints. Image size 23.5 x 15.5 inches (60cm x 40cm). Price £130.00 ITEM CODE LIM0472 |
| Ascot by Graham Isom. Graham Isoms latest limited edition in his Racecourses ofthe United Kingdom series features one of the greatest of all courses, Ascot. Ascot was founded in 1711 by Queen Anne, who noticed a natural clearing near to the village of East Cote, now called Ascot, whilst out riding on the edge of Windsor Great Park. An enthusiastic patron of the relatively new sport, the Queen ordered a course to be laid out for horses to gallop at full stretch and thus the Royal Racecourse was born. The first four-day Royal Meeting was held in June 1768 and the meeting has continued to the present day. Today Ascot stages 25 days of the highest quality flat and National Hunt racing each year, including the world-famous Royal Meeting each June. An atmospheric blend of top class thoroughbreds and high fashion, the Royal Meeting offers over £2.5 million in prize money and no fewer than 15 Group races, including a Group One on each of the four days. This painting depicts The King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot in July 1999, in which the grey, Daylami, ridden by Frankie Dettori, Nedawi, ridden by Gary Stevens, and Fruits of Love, ridden by Olivier Peslier, battle for supremacy in a race eventually won by Daylami.
